Kuroshima Church



A graceful romanesque church

uroshima Catholic Church was established by the christian people who moved from Ikitsuki and Sotome in the Bunka・Bunsei era. Father Marmand, who first resided here, consecrated this magnificent church which was built with four hundred thousand bricks and Kroshima's special granite for its foundation in 1902.

The churches which constitute "Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region" are still in use as the places for prayers. There could be the time when we cannot accept visitation to the churches due to the religious events such as Mass or other ceremonial occasions, or just for too many visitors at once. To avoid such situations, a prior notice is required when you visit those churches as well as Kroshima Church. Please contact the "Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region" Information Center below.

※ The conservation and repair works of Kuroshima Catholic Church was started in February 2019, therefore, in order to make safety assurance the highest priority, entering the premises is restricted during the following period, and the tour of the building will be possible only from the external observation stand. We apologize for any inconvenience, but thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
○ Inquiries about the range of the observation platform and the time of special openings during the construction period, call 0956-25-9634 at Sasebo Board of Education Cultural Property Division on weekdays 8:30a.m.~5:15p.m. (closed on Sat. Sun. and holidays)
○ Construction Period: February 4th, 2019 ~ March 2021 ※ It may be postponed depanding on the progress of the construction.
