Kujikushima area is surrounded by the intricate coastline and many islands, and very calm seas. The nutritious water flows in there from the islands and helps phytoplankton to grow. Phytoplankton is an important source for pearl oysters that are used for culturing pearls. Therefore, pearl farming is very popular around Kujukushima. You can experience the removal of a pearl from a pearl oyster here at Umi-Kirara, and you may take it home with you or it can be made into an accessory like a cellphone strap.
