Saikai Bashi Bridge

西海橋

Sasebo Port Tawaragaura Peninsula/Kougozaki/Hario Island

Feel the power of whirling currents that appear in one of the three greatest rapid tides of Japanese waters!!

The Saikai Bridge is an arch bridge spanning Hario Strait. When it was built in 1955, it was the world's third largest bridge, and the largest in Asia. You should not miss one of the three greatest rapid tides of Japanese waters and its many whirlpools in Hario Strait. As the tidal waves in spring and autumn are especially spectacular, a "Whirlpool Festival" is held in each season every year. In spring time, when about one thousand cherry trees are in full bloom, you can enjoy the splendid contrast between the cherry blossoms and the swirling tides.
