Central Sasebo

The cave where "Toryumon", the pottery of more than 12,000 years ago, was found.

The pottery excavated from this cave in 1973 is called "Toryumon", and it was proven to be from the Neolithic era more than 12,000 years ago, which made it take over the position of "the oldest pottery in world history". It was designated as a national important cultural asset along with other stoneware and pottery from the end of the Old Stone Age through the early Jomon era which were excavated at the same time.
